🎨 30 Days of September Crafts: Create a Little Something Every Day!

September is that funny little in-between month when backpacks are still new, summer hasn't completely packed its bags, and fall starts quietly sneaking in with cooler mornings, crunchy leaves and apples everywhere. 🍎🍂

So instead of jumping straight into 30 days of pumpkins, we've filled September with a little bit of everything!

Welcome to 30 Days of September Crafts with The Buzzy B! 🐝💗

This month you'll find apple art, back-to-school creations, kindness projects, nature crafts, STEM fun, keepsakes, early fall favorites and, as we get closer to October, just a tiny sprinkle of silly-spooky fun. 👻

Most of these projects use simple supplies you probably already have tucked inside a craft bin, junk drawer or recycling pile. They're designed to be easy enough for a weekday afternoon but fun enough to turn into a family activity.

🍎 September 1: Apple Stamp Orchard

🛍️ Supplies: Apple, washable paint, white paper or cardstock, brown & green markers
👧 Age: 2+ with supervision
💰 Cost: $0–$5
⏰ Time: 15–20 minutes

✂️ How to Make It: Cut an apple in half. Dip the cut side lightly into red, green or yellow paint and stamp it across the paper. Once dry, add stems, leaves and tree branches to turn the prints into an apple orchard.

🐝 Buzzy Tip: Cut one apple horizontally through the middle and look for the hidden star shape inside before you start stamping!

✏️ September 2: Giant Craft-Stick Pencil

🛍️ Supplies: Jumbo craft sticks, yellow paint, pink paint, cardstock, glue, black marker
👧 Age: 4+

⏰ Time: 20–30 minutes

✂️ How to Make It: Line up several craft sticks and glue them together. Paint the body yellow, add a pink eraser and create a pointed pencil tip from cardstock. Kids can write their name down the middle.

🐝 Buzzy Tip: Add a magnet to the back and you've got instant refrigerator art that can hold more refrigerator art. Craftception! 😂

🌻 September 3: Paper Plate Sunflower

🛍️ Supplies: Paper plate, yellow construction paper, brown paint or marker, glue, scissors
👧 Age: 3+

⏰ Time: 20 minutes

✂️ How to Make It: Color or paint the center of the plate brown. Cut yellow paper petals and glue them around the edge. Add a green paper stem and leaves.

🐝 Buzzy Tip: Glue real sunflower seeds into the center for extra texture and a little nature lesson. 🌻

🐝 September 4: Kindness Bee

🛍️ Supplies: Yellow paper, black paper or marker, white paper, glue, scissors

✂️ How to Make It: Cut out a yellow bee body and add black stripes, wings, antennae and a happy face. Write a different act of kindness on each stripe.

🌈 September 5: Crayon Suncatcher

🛍️ Supplies: Wax paper, old crayons, pencil sharpener, iron, towel, string
👧 Age: 5+ with adult assistance

✂️ How to Make It: Sprinkle crayon shavings between two sheets of wax paper. Place a towel over them and have an adult briefly press with a warm iron. Once cooled, cut into shapes and hang in a sunny window.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 September 6: Friendship Bracelets

🛍️ Supplies: Pony beads, elastic cord or pipe cleaners

✂️ How to Make It: String beads in favorite colors onto elastic cord. Tie securely when finished. Make one to keep and one to give away.

📚 September 7: Design-Your-Own Bookmark

🛍️ Supplies: Cardstock, markers, stickers, hole punch, ribbon

✂️ How to Make It: Cut cardstock into bookmark-sized strips and decorate. Punch a hole at the top and tie on ribbon.

✂️ How to Make It: Cut the sides from a paper plate to create an apple-core shape. Add colored paper to the top and bottom, draw seeds and give your apple a silly face.

🍂 September 10: Nature Collage

✂️ How to Make It: Head outside and collect interesting natural materials. Arrange everything on cardboard to make a picture, pattern or creature.

🇺🇸 September 11: Thank-You Heroes Cards

🛍️ Supplies: Cardstock, crayons, markers, stickers

✂️ How to Make It: Create handmade thank-you cards for firefighters, EMTs, military members, police officers or another community helper.

🛍️ Supplies: Smooth rocks, acrylic paint or paint pens

✂️ How to Make It: Paint rocks with cheerful pictures or short messages such as YOU ROCK, BE KIND, SMILE, or YOU'VE GOT THIS!

🐝 Buzzy Tip: Place them somewhere appropriate for another person to discover, but avoid parks or properties where leaving painted rocks isn't permitted.

💗 September 13: Grandparents Day Handprint Keepsake

✂️ How to Make It: Paint little hands and press them onto cardstock. Turn the prints into flowers, a heart, butterflies or a tree.

🦋 September 14: Coffee Filter Butterflies

🛍️ Supplies: Coffee filters, washable markers, spray bottle, clothespins, pipe cleaners

✂️ How to Make It: Color the filters heavily with markers, lightly mist them with water and let the colors spread. Once dry, pinch the center into a clothespin and add antennae.

🧪 September 15: Fizzy Baking-Soda Art

🛍️ Supplies: Baking soda, water, food coloring or washable paint, vinegar, droppers

✂️ How to Make It: Mix baking soda with a little water and color to create thick paint. Paint a picture, then drip vinegar over it and watch the artwork bubble.

✂️ How to Make It: Paint bubble wrap yellow and press it onto paper. Cut the print into a corn-cob shape and add green paper husks.

🦔 September 18: Leaf Hedgehog

🛍️ Supplies: Fallen leaves, cardstock, glue, marker

✂️ How to Make It: Draw a simple hedgehog face and body. Layer collected leaves behind it to create colorful spikes.

🛍️ Supplies: Cardstock, school glue, salt, watercolor paint

✂️ How to Make It: Draw leaf shapes with glue. Sprinkle heavily with salt and shake off the excess. Touch watercolor onto the salted lines and watch the color travel.

✂️ How to Make It: Draw or paint a tree trunk. Use fingertips, cotton swabs or pom-poms to dot colorful leaves across the branches.

🕷️ September 29: Craft-Stick Spider Web

✂️ How to Make It: Glue three craft sticks across one another to create six spokes. Once dry, weave yarn around the sticks to form a web.

👹 September 30: Silly Monster Treat Bag

✂️ How to Make It: Give each bag a monster makeover. Add mismatched eyes, giant teeth, crazy hair, horns, spots and whatever wonderfully weird features your kiddo dreams up.

There are no monster rules.

One eye? Sure.

Nine teeth?

Absolutely.

Purple eyebrows and six ears?

This monster is clearly fashionable. 😂

🐝 Buzzy Tip: Save the finished bags. They can hold Halloween treats, small toys or treasures next month.

🍂 That's 30 Days of September Creativity!

Thirty days. Thirty crafts. Hopefully only 14 glue sticks, 237 googly eyes and one mysteriously painted kitchen chair. 😂🎨

But here's the important part: these projects don't have to look like the pictures.

A crooked sunflower is perfect. A ghost with seven eyes is perfect. An apple stamp that somehow resembles a potato? Also perfect.

Let kids experiment. Let them change the directions. Let them choose strange colors and use entirely too much glue.

Because the best part isn't what eventually gets taped to the refrigerator.

It's the time spent making it together. 💗

Before heading to the store, check the recycling bin, junk drawer and that mysterious craft cabinet where googly eyes multiply overnight. 👀

Save things like cardboard, cereal boxes, scrap paper, leftover ribbon, wrapping paper, old crayons, tissue paper, jars and packaging. Several of September's projects can be made almost entirely from things you already have.

🐝 Buzzy's Budget Tip

You do not need every item on this list on September 1! Most crafts use the same handful of basics over and over.

If you're starting from scratch, I'd prioritize construction paper, cardstock, washable paint, markers, crayons, glue, scissors, craft sticks, googly eyes, yarn and pipe cleaners. That little craft stash will cover a huge chunk of our 30 days.

Bonus idea: Put everything into one inexpensive basket or plastic tote and make it your September Craft Box. Each day, pull out the day's supplies and you're ready to create. 🎨🍎🐝
