(Simple, budget-friendly, and kid-approved)
Making playdough at home is a fun, hands-on activity your kids can help with from start to finish. Little helpers can measure, pour, and mix while a parent or guardian handles the warm water step.
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups warm water
1 cup kosher salt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 tablespoon cream of tartar
Food coloring (optional)
In a large bowl, combine the flour, kosher salt, vegetable oil, and cream of tartar.
A parent or guardian should heat the water in a saucepan, then allow it to cool slightly until warm but safe to handle.
Slowly add the warm water to the dry ingredients and mix well until a dough forms.
For colored playdough, divide the dough into equal portions and roll into balls.
Add food coloring to each ball and knead until you reach the desired color.
Add glitter or essential oils (like lavender) for sensory fun
If dough feels sticky, sprinkle in a little more flour
If it feels dry, add a tiny splash of water
Store playdough in an airtight container at room temperature. It should last several weeks with proper storage.
