One of the best things about homeschooling is that school doesn’t have to happen at a desk. 🍎🍂
A science lesson can happen at the zoo. History can come alive at a ranch. PE can mean hiking through Garden of the Gods. Art can happen at a museum, and sometimes the best lesson of the week happens because you packed everyone into the car and went somewhere new.
October is especially good for that.
So I gathered homeschool events, educational field trips, classes, enrichment programs, outdoor learning opportunities, festivals, ongoing homeschool resources, and a few experiences that may not technically say “homeschool” but are absolutely worth adding to your school day.
Whether you homeschool full-time, use a hybrid program, belong to a co-op, or are simply looking for something educational to add to your week, I hope this helps you explore, learn, create, and make a few memories along the way. 🐝💗

This is one to bookmark for more than October. A group of homeschool families could easily turn this into a pretty spectacular STEM field trip.
October festivals can be educational, too.
Pumpkin patches become agriculture lessons. Historic festivals become social studies. Corn mazes involve problem solving. Apple pressing becomes science. Nature walks become biology.
And sometimes?
Fun can just be fun. 💗
Homeschooling gives us the wonderful freedom to recognize that learning happens everywhere.
Use The Buzzy B's October calendar and Fall Fun Guide to find pumpkin patches, harvest festivals, fall celebrations, farms, free community events, Halloween fun, outdoor adventures, and plenty of opportunities to turn an ordinary October afternoon into a field trip.
One of my favorite things about homeschooling and learning outside the classroom is watching kids discover that education isn't confined to a workbook.
It's in the fossil they hold in their hand.
It's in figuring out why leaves change colors.
It's asking a zookeeper 47 questions about giraffes. 😂
It's counting apples, reading trail signs, building rockets, watching a blacksmith work, navigating a corn maze, painting something completely unexpected, and meeting people who do fascinating things for a living.
So don't worry about recreating a traditional classroom at home.
Go explore.
Ask questions.
Get a little muddy.
Take the field trip.
And if somebody asks what your kids learned that day?
Tell them a whole lot more than they realized. 🐝💗
Send it to The Buzzy B!
I'm always looking for homeschool classes, co-ops, field trips, educational events, enrichment programs, discounts, businesses, and hidden gems for local families.

One of the best things about homeschooling is that school doesn’t have to happen at a desk. 🍎🍂
Science can happen at the zoo. History can come alive at a ranch. PE can mean hiking through Garden of the Gods. Art can happen at a museum. STEM can involve launching a pretend space mission. And sometimes the best lesson of the week happens because you packed everyone into the car and went somewhere new.
And October? October was practically MADE for this.
So I went hunting for homeschool-specific events, educational field trips, classes, enrichment programs, outdoor learning, STEM, history, art, fall adventures, free activities and ongoing homeschool resources throughout The Buzzy B’s Colorado communities.

October gives homeschool families an entire outdoor classroom.
Talk about:
• Pumpkin life cycles
• Seeds
• Pollination
• Farming
• Soil
• Measuring circumference and weight
Bring a compass. Talk about maps and direction. Let the kids navigate.
Then let them run around until everybody sleeps wonderfully that night. 😂
How does an apple become cider?
Explore force, pressure, states of matter, farming and food production.
Collect different leaves.
Identify the trees.
Compare shapes.
Study chlorophyll.
Then bring them home for art.
Instead of just petting the goat, find out:
What does it eat?
How long does it live?
What is a baby called?
Why do farmers raise it?
Congratulations. You just did school.
