Turn colorful fall leaves into cozy little lanterns! They’re easy, inexpensive, and look especially magical after sunset.
Best for: Ages 4+ with adult help
Time: About 25 minutes
Mess level: Mildly sticky—but worth it!
Clean glass jar
Colorful fall leaves—real or artificial
Mod Podge or watered-down white glue
Foam paintbrush
Twine or ribbon
Battery-operated tea light
Optional: tissue-paper leaves, glitter or leaf-shaped confetti
Make sure the jar is clean and completely dry.
Brush a thin layer of Mod Podge onto one section of the jar.
Press a leaf onto the coated area.
Gently brush another thin layer over the leaf to seal it.
Continue adding overlapping leaves until you love the design.
Allow the jar to dry completely.
Tie twine or ribbon around the top.
Add a battery-operated tea light and watch your fall colors glow!
Have each child make a “family gratitude lantern.” Before attaching the leaves, write something they’re thankful for on each one.
Safety note: Use battery-operated lights only—no real candles.
