These adorable little ghosts look like they're floating, but there's no Halloween magic required! Just a few inexpensive supplies, a little creativity, and some overnight drying time. They're perfect for mantels, windowsills, Halloween party tables, or anywhere your home needs a friendly little haunting. ๐
Estimated cost: $5โ$10 for several ghosts | Ages: 5+ with adult assistance | Drying time: Overnight
Cheesecloth
White school glue and water
Small balloons
Cups, jars, or bottles to support the balloons
Black felt for eyes
Scissors, a mixing bowl, and a protected work surface
Build your ghost forms. Inflate small balloons and place each on top of a cup or bottle. The balloon creates the head, and the cloth will drape down to form the ghost's body.
Mix the glue. Combine roughly equal parts white glue and water in a bowl.
Drape the cheesecloth. Cut squares of cheesecloth large enough to cover the balloon and reach the table. Dip the cloth into the glue mixture, squeeze out the excess, and drape it over your balloon form.
Shape your ghosts. Spread the bottom edges outward so each ghost will stand when dry. Add another layer of cheesecloth for a sturdier ghost.
Let them dry overnight. Once completely stiff, gently lift the ghosts off their forms and remove the balloons.
Add their personalities! Glue on little black felt eyes. Make them silly, surprised, sleepy, or spooky!
๐ Buzzy's Bonus Tip: Place battery-operated LED tea lights underneath your finished ghosts for an extra magical glow. Never use real candles.
